Testimonials from FTLOM Sponsors and or Mission Team Members

Cathy Markus- FTLOM Sponsor

I have been a sponsor of two children through fortheloveofmateo going on three years now. I immediately starting sending the kids letters and pictures every month and have tried hard not to miss a month. Claudia bless her heart would update me with things the kids would say in response to my letters which helped to have a connection right away (this was before I personally met them) and then through the monthly photos being sent and getting to see them change and grow was so special.

In December 2014 I was able to travel with Val and team and that first meeting, the first time seeing and hearing them calling to me, " Kati, Kati" and feeling those little arms go around my neck still to this moment brings me to tears. A moment unlike any other I will always treasure in my heart. These children want and need time spent with us more than anything else or a connection to the outside world where they know someone out there cares about them and their well being. Being a sponsor to these children is a gift from God. I have seen and heard the impact it can have in their lives to be a sponsor and it has quit simply changed my life. I have a passion, a purpose and a direction I wouldn't otherwise have if it wasn't for Fortheloveofmateo sponsorship program. There is nothing    better then to give without the expectation of receiving in return but I can guarantee for those of you who might want to sponsor for a first time you will be making a huge difference in not only a child's life......but in yours.

Roughly a year and a half ago my wife and I decided to sponsor a child for the Love of Mateo foundation. It was a simple decision that has forever changed our lives and connected us to something very special. Not only were we given the opportunity to go and visit our sponsor child (which we did) the constant updates on the Hogar via social media and email allow us to see the development of the children and the programs they are involved with. One of the things we love is that we know there are no CEO's to pay or advertising costs to cover......every cent we send goes directly to them. We are forever changed and blessed to be a part of this and plan on expanding our role in the new year...... We thought we were going to be touching these children's lives and ended up having ours changed forever.- Dan & Kristine Archibald, FTLOM Sponsors of a precious little one at Hogar Luz de Maria

My family and I have had the honor of sponsoring several children since the beginning of “For the LOVE of Mateo” was founded by ENVP, Valerie Edwards. It has been one of the most rewarding things that we have done! WE keep a picture of the children that we have sponsored on the wall in our home. Being able to provide financially for their needs for  things like their rent, food, utilities and other daily life expenses is so rewarding, because it allows us to send our love and support from afar.  Several times throughout our relationship with the organization “For the LOVE of Mateo, we have done other things too and it is awesome because we decide as a family what we want to do.Then, we go out together as a family to get the things and it has brought our family closer together and it has helped my boys see how giving to others brings true love and joy to their hearts as well. Being a sponsor for the "LOVE of Mateo" has truly enriched my life and my families! We are so grateful for Valerie Edwards and her vision for this organization and the children, if it wasn’t for her vision we would never have had this life enriching opportunity.

Sponsoring children through For the Love of Mateo has been one of the most impactful blessings our family has shared. We have been able to connect with children across the globe who we would have never known otherwise. Being able to travel to Guatemala to meet and spend time with our sponsored children has been an added bonus we have not experienced in our other sponsoring endeavors. This organization is run from the heart and is all heart. An opportunity to love someone in need and to play a small part in their journey is an honor and a privilege. Our four children are constantly thinking about, talking about and asking how they can improve the lives of these children. "What else can we do?" For the love of Mateo has taught them that they are never too young to be the hands and feet of Christ and to make an impact on the world in a greater way. That is a priceless lesson in a culture of excess and selfishness. It's the best $25 we each spend each month. We simply skip something we do not need to provide for those who truly do need. Absolutely one of the most valuable things we do as a family! As always the greatest joy comes from giving. Giving always brings receiving. What we have received in return could never be measured by a dollar sign. Thank you For The Love of Mateo for giving us this unique and beautiful opportunity!

My fiancé and I have been sponsoring children, now a total of three beautiful souls, through For the Love of Mateo for 2 years. I first had the privilege of traveling down to Guatemala to the orphanage FTLOM supports in June of 2014, and that is when my heart was forever changed. Our lives are a journey, and after we witness another person in a rough patch, we have two choices. We can either continue on, or we can turn around and help those a few paces behind. That’s what Jon and I decided. From that date upon coming home we decided to each sponsor a child, and some time later we added a third child to our sponsorship. For some people until they go and meet/witness what their life is like it is hard to wrap your head around what sponsorship means. These are real children with real lives, not just numbers coming out of your bank account.  We like to think of it in the aspect of giving hope, love and life not money. What I love and truly respect about FTLOM is after going on numerous trips to visit our children at the hogar, and following updates on Facebook, I can actually see where our sponsorship is going. It doesn’t pay any salaries for FTLOM, all our sponsorship money goes to the children/hogar. I get to know our children, hold them in my arms, know who they are and what their hopes and dreams are. To this day, after spending time with our children, building the relationships with them, becoming their family, it is still very hard to put into words what sponsorship means to me. All I know is I am not the same person I was 2 years ago, and I know our children are not the same either. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. It has been such a rich and meaningful journey to be in their lives in such a big way. And that is what sponsorship says to me, being involved, investing yourself in someones life and remembering that the Lord has a purpose for each and every one of us. Its a remarkable feeling to be able to mutually connect your heart with a child who is so deserving of love and happiness. Through my personal journey of sponsorship, they have taught me many life lessons which I am forever grateful for. They have showed me what it feels like to be needed and wanted for unconditional tender loving care. They have taught me to be selfless, and be the hands and feet of the Lord. They remind me every single day that this life is not our own, and sponsoring them invests in the bigger picture and gives each and every one of them that fire in their heart to continue on and that they are loved by someone out there. We are so honored to be one of those people in their lives, and are so grateful for For the Love of Mateo and all they represent and stand for. Without these children and FTLOM, Jon and I wouldn’t be who we are today. Blessings, Liz and Jon

To whom it may concern:

I have been a part of For the Love of Mateo since it started in 2012.

It has been an amazing organization to be a part of. Valerie does such an amazing job and it has been wonderful to see how this organization has grown. We love supporting FTLOM and sponsoring our child, Cesar (Tire) and to watch the children and the support and love they receive from this organization is really remarkable.

 Sincerely,
