Esperanza Juvenil
Esperanza Juvenil is a not-for-profit organization that helps highly-motivated children and youth from low-income backgrounds to reach their maximum potential.
The approximately 170 children and youth who are currently part of Esperanza Juvenil come from difficult situations in which their families and communities are unable to provide basic support - education, health care and an overall safe upbringing. Esperanza Juvenil provides them with an opportunity to receive an education with the goal that they will graduate from college so they could reach their maximum potential as individuals and contribute to their communities.

Approximately 48% of urban children and 51% of rural children in Guatemala live in extreme poverty. According to the UN World Food Programme, Guatemala now has “the fourth highest rate of chronic malnutrition in the world and the highest in Latin America and the Caribbean.” An astonishing 50% of Guatemalan children under age 5 are chronically malnourished. Moreover, the average education level attained in Guatemala is 4th grade - and drops down to 2nd grade for Mayan girls.
Only 4% of the Guatemalan population attend university, and only 20% of those graduate.

When you choose to sponsor a children or children, you will receive a general history plus regular updates, including photos, on how they're doing. Every three months, the child or children will write to you, and you're invited to write to them as often as you wish.

Esperanza Juvenil is paving the way for young Guatemalans to take a great leap forward for themselves, their families and their country.

Due to COVID-19, Esperanza Juvenil is experiencing a significant increase in the number of children using its support and, as a result, FTLOM has added a new sponsorship option of monthly groceries.
